Our second concert at the Town Hall was an inspiring one for the younger members of the audience, who listened to students on the extension and advanced courses perform ensembles and original solo compositions.

Nathan Hawkes, 11, represented the UK at this year's EJOC. His composition, 'Forest in a Nutshell', has three movements: The Squirrel, The Bear and The Eagle. Co-performers included students from Germany, France, Austria, Greece and Portugal. Nathan is currently studying JXC Book 8 with Antonia King. Pictures and recordings to follow.

20th anniversary concert

Our JXC and JAC students performed at this very special concert - it was our first performance at the Town Hall, and included ensembles, solo compositions and a song.

The second JOC took place at Matrix on 7th November. The programme ran as follows:

2nd European Junior Original Concert
Salle Gaveau, Paris, January 2009

lindsay and imogenimogenon stageImogen Reay, 11, travelled to Paris in the company of family, teachers and classmates, where she performed alongside young composers from Italy, France and Germany. Her composition is entitled 'The Chicken and the Rooster'.This was the second ever European JOC - and Imogen was the UK's first ever performer in an international original concert! The pictures show Imogen receiving her certificate with her teacher, Lindsay MacKenzie; Imogen on stage; all the performers take their bow. Listen to Imogen's performance on YouTube.

We are very proud to have presented the UK's first JOC here at Matrix, with six compositions by children studying Junior Extension Course and Junior Advanced Course. This was the programme:

Matrix students record with Radiohead March 2007

radiohead Bass guitarist Colin Greenwood and producer Nigel Godrich invited thirty Junior Extension children to help realise an idea for one of the tracks on Radiohead's forthcoming album. The whole experience was great fun - for parents as well!
